Feedback on Main brief

In class today we looked at other main briefs whilst other groups checked ours out and gave us both positive and negative parts about our film. Below is the feedback about our film that the other groups wrote down.

One of the main issues raised was sound - focusing on the dialogue in particular as the audience found it hard to hear certain dialogue. Also the other groups felt there was more digetic sound needed to the film to make it scarier. 

Due to the poor camera issues we had the other groups felt that we needed to include a clearer image of what was seen on the phone which was dealt with when we did our second filming.

Horror Certificates

Examples of 15 rated horror films:

• Insidious
• Conjuring
• Scream
• The Strangers

The vast majority of Horror films are rated 15 as this allows a larger profit margin for film producers. This is because more viewers will be old enough to see the film which greatly increases ticket sales. Although there are some productions rated 18 such as the SAW franchise they primarily rely on the Gore and violence to attract more viewers by word of mouth which is appealing to older aged audiences. 

The difference between 15 and 18 rated movies can vary but it mostly means that the film is more likely to include stronger violence, horror and gore which means that the film is far worse, however the 15 rated movies will draw better audiences as they can appeal to younger age groups. 

Todorov's Equilibrium theory

The theory is about simple narrative for a story line or plot. It begins when the equilibrium is first disturbed which is later recognised leading to the fixing of the plot which allows development. This fixes the distribution, once this is complete a new distribution will rise.

We have used Todorov's equilibrium theory in our own piece by starting off with the equilibrium at the start where the friends are sitting together. The disruption will be seeing the post on Facebook which leads to everyone recognising that something has happened.
